So I have a wonderful recipe for you to try out! It’s not mine by any means but I had to share. I’m not sure if anyone is obsessed with the cinnamon nuts that you see at festivals? The one’s that fill the street up with the warm smell of cinnamon? I’m crazy about them but usually find it’s at least $5 for a rather small amount that doesn’t last very long. But surprise! You can make them at home for the fraction of the price and they taste EXACTLY THE SAME!
I found this recipe via pinterest [surprise] along with another. Their ingredients were basically the same but the one I’m sharing has such an easier method. It’s so simple but I know I would’ve never have thought of it and would be washing at least two bowls. Check it out.
First you mix the wet ingredients [water, egg whites, and vanilla] in one plastic bag. Add you nuts. I did walnuts because it’s harder to find those in cinnamon glazed form [it’s usually pecans]. But I wouldn’t do something too small as it may burn. In a second bag add the sugar and cinnamon. Pour bag one into bag two. Shake. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silpat. I had silpat I got from Costco forever ago and it was the first time I used it. It turned out wonderfully.
You bake at a slow heat for an hour, stirring every 15 minutes. I set two alarms [one for the hour so I wouldn’t get confused because I know how this brain works, and the other for 15 minutes]. Your house will smell amazing. Your husband will sing your praises. There may or may not be a parade in your honor passing by outside.
These basically cost me $6 [the price of the walnuts] since I had everything else in my fridge. And yes it’s about the same amount as you pay at those festival carts but now you can make them anytime you want and you can eat them by the pound! Which I may or may not have done… And sorry I didn’t get a final photo [I ate them].
Here it is straight from Baked Perfection:
2 egg whites
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 tablespoon water
1 pound pecan halves
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat.
In a gallon sized freezer bag mix together the egg whites, vanilla extract, and water. In a separate gallon sized freezer bag mix together the sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add pecans to the bag with the egg white mixture. Seal the bag and shake around the pecans until they are evenly coated. Transfer the coated pecans to the bag with the sugar mixture. Seal the bag and shake around until the pecans are evenly coated with the sugar mixture. Spread the pecans on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool completely before serving.
