laundry room update

We have been busy doing small updates around the house but at the same time, I feel like I've accomplished nothing. I guess with traveling it makes me want to just be lazy when I'm home and chill on the couch with the animals. Boo for productivity. But we did manage to paint the laundry room and get new lighting.

Here's is what we had up until last week:

The room is a bit dark for my taste. But we're planning on moving within the year and didn't want to spend a lot of money. So this paint was leftover from our hallway project and it was free. It made our decision a bit easier. The previous light was a boob fixture missing its... boob. Here it is with the new light in place:

I hate our textured ceilings. Hate. But so far, I'm loving our fixture. It's either this one or this one from home depot. I can't remember how much we spent and they look the same to me. It gives off a surprising amount of light and I like the traditional feel to it. If I would've read the reviews beforehand [something I do for online purchases but not in-store] I may not have purchased it. Every review is negative and mentions the screw on glass pendant falling and breaking. I tried not to over-tighten it so hopefully we won't have any issues. But our laundry room door will be staying closed!

And here's a photo of the laundry room when we first moved in, just to make myself feel better for any lack of progress over here! The cabinets were metal and in awful shape [and super dirty] so we tore them out. The flooring is still there. Bleh.

  1. I've been looking at that fixture for our hallway. Flush mounts are so difficult because they aren't the most attractive or exciting lighting options but are necessary. I do love schoolhouse style lights though.

    1. They have some larger versions of this too since this one is pretty small. So far mine hasn't broken ;)

  2. Waaay better light fixture! Doesn't a fresh coat of paint, even though maybe not your ideal color, just make everything better? Lookin' good!

    1. I know! After over three years of living here, it actually feels like a "real" room now!

  3. I love that light fixture! I need to grab something similar for our kitchen. Looks like progress to me! :)

  4. The light fixture looks so much better.

Drop me a line! I monitor all comments just to make sure we keep it fun and light :]
